Cobra(JET) Conversion Part 3

With the body and interior completed, it was now on to the daunting task of the chassis.

Again, the issue of moulded in detail needing to be removed was present. Exhaust, driveshaft, differential…its all there.

Marking out what you want to remove can definitely help out, and several hours at the bench with the dremel.

As the detail was removed, the frame and chassis pan had to be rebuilt

While most of the glue was drying or I was taking a break from milling out the chassis, i moved onto the for 9in rear end. The parts box taketh but also giveth and the spare one I found was perfect. However the axel portion was off and needed a quick stretch and makeover. Weld beads were added with thinned Bondo spot filler.

With the rear end taking shape and getting aligned, a wheelie bar was scratch built from brass rod and styrene as per the reference vehicle I was replicating.

Using an old NASCAr driveshaft from the spares box, I snipped off the U-Joints and made a custom shaft out of styrene rod.

The last build log will show the engine and minor assemblies prior to the final reveals, we’ll see you then.
