While the Messerschmitt Me-262 was a leap forward in aircraft design, it came too late in the war to have any major effect on the allied invasion and bombing raids.
Late in 1944, resources and materials were scarce, defense of German airspace was a losing battle, and the end was near. The Messerschmitt Me-262 was the first combat operational jet aircraft ever produced. It sported twin BMW engines suspended under the swept wings, and was armed with four 30mm cannons in the nose. The 262 was fast and deadly but fragile, often being shot down when it was landing or taking off.
My rendition of this 262 was to highlight some of its most dramatic features while also encorporating some desperation that was felt at the end of the war. Some lich blau on the fuselage which was often used as an under-colour, the nose and engine nacelles scavenged from another bird, and the exposed metal of the wings.
